Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico
EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) / O&M
SAMPOL has designed and built a 23.3 MW industrial off-grid microgrid for the CooperVision plant in Juana Díaz (Puerto Rico), ensuring power generation independent of the public grid for contact lens manufacturing processes. The plant consists of seven Jenbacher reciprocating engines running on natural gas and propane, with thermal recovery to produce cooling through absorption. In addition to the full EPC, SAMPOL provides operation and maintenance services through an independent O&M contract.
The integration of power generation and heat recovery improves the efficiency of the electricity and cooling supply, with a refrigeration capacity of 2,580 RT. The LNG storage and regasification infrastructure strengthens fuel supply security and contributes to reducing emission intensity compared to more carbon-intensive alternatives.
