Engineering and Design / EPC — Engineering, Procurement & Construction / Operation and Maintenance
SAMPOL designed and built a 23.3 MW off-grid industrial microgrid for CooperVision’s manufacturing facility in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico, providing power independently of the utility grid for contact lens production. The plant consists of seven Jenbacher reciprocating engines that run on natural gas and propane, with heat recovery to provide cooling through absorption chillers. In addition to delivering the full EPC scope, SAMPOL provides operation and maintenance services under a separate O&M contract.
Integrating power generation with heat recovery improves the efficiency of electricity and cooling production, with a cooling capacity of 2,580 tons. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage and regasification infrastructure strengthens fuel supply reliability and helps reduce emissions intensity compared with more carbon-intensive alternatives.
