Installation of a Complete CAT III Visual Aids System
The project involved removing existing systems and installing new visual aids for Runway 16L-34R and its associated taxiways. The scope included 2,251 lights, 37 constant current regulators, four high-voltage selectors, two precision approach path indicator (PAPI) systems, a CAT III approach lighting system, threshold identification lights, sequenced flashing approach lights, internally illuminated airfield guidance signs, and more than 700 km of cabling. The project also included expanding and upgrading the airfield lighting control and monitoring system.
All Work Coordinated with Civil Construction Activities
The work also included several flight checks to calibrate the PAPI systems and adjustments to the ILS-16L glide slope to align the approach guidance. Existing infrastructure, including approach lighting towers and regulator room 1240, was adapted, and the integrated ATC information system was updated to ensure compatibility with the upgraded Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS).
All activities were coordinated with civil construction work, which included rehabilitating runway and taxiway pavement, upgrading runway strips and runway end safety areas (RESAs), building a new service road, installing a fuel pipeline beneath the runway, and constructing a new regulator room.
