EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) / Operation and Maintenance
The project involved providing electrical connections to container ships, thereby reducing the use of their engines whilst in port. Some of the work carried out included electrical ducting, the laying of MV cables, transformer stations, OPS, a CMS system and the replacement of fenders.
The installation of the OPS substation will prevent the use of the ships’ auxiliary engines whilst they are berthed in port, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The project will provide two supply points, each with its own cable management system. Each supply or connection point will be capable of supplying electricity to a vessel of up to 7.5 MVA. However, if two vessels were moored simultaneously and requiring electricity, each could be supplied with up to 5 MVA at the same time.
